Tom Wilson Named to 2025 Environment 100 List

Wilson Bio-Chemical is proud to announce that Tom Wilson, Founder and Managing Director, has been recognised on the prestigious 2025 Environment 100 list, celebrating the UK’s leading innovators in environmental sustainability. The announcement was made at the ESS Expo on 17 September at the NEC Birmingham.

With over 50 years of engineering expertise, Tom Wilson is a globally respected figure in sustainable waste management and a leading authority on steam autoclaving. He designed and patented the Wilson System®, a revolutionary waste processing technology that deconstructs the biodegradable fraction of municipal solid waste into Wilson Fibre®, a clean, cellulose-rich biomass. This breakthrough enables recycling rates of up to 90%, diverts waste from landfills, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Under Tom’s leadership, Wilson Fibre® has been developed into high-value products including biofuel pellets, advanced biochar, and sustainable biochemicals. Strategic collaborations with the Universities of York, Nottingham, and Cambridge have unlocked further environmental benefits, such as carbon sequestration applications, sustainable construction materials, and contributions toward Sustainable Aviation Fuel production.

“Being named to the Environment 100 is a tremendous honour,” said Tom Wilson. “It reflects the dedication of our team at Wilson Bio-Chemical and our ongoing mission to demonstrate that industrial-scale sustainability is achievable through innovation, science, and collaboration.”

Tom’s recognition highlights his lifelong commitment to advancing clean technology, promoting the circular economy, and supporting national and global decarbonisation goals. His work continues to set new standards for sustainable waste management and resource recovery, inspiring industries and communities alike.
